DENVER, COLO. (Nov. 25, 2019)—The Colorado Trust, a foundation dedicated to creating fair and equal opportunities for Coloradans to lead healthy lives, announced it has granted $5,000 each to five nonprofit organizations in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, in conjunction with the September 2019 Rural Philanthropy Days.

Rural Philanthropy Days connects funders with nonprofit organizations and government agencies that serve rural Colorado. The biannual event was created in 1991 by the Community Resource Center (CRC) and the Anschutz Family Foundation to strengthen nonprofit-funder relations and address critical needs in rural Colorado communities.

The September 2019 Rural Philanthropy Days, which took place in Del Norte, Colo., convened nonprofit organization and funder representatives from Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache counties. Grants of $5,000 were awarded by The Trust to each of the following organizations:

  • Antonito Senior Citizens Association (Antonito, serving Conejos County): Funds will be used as a project grant for the Antonito Senior Citizens Center.
  • Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains – Alamosa (Alamosa, serving multiple counties): Funds will be used for sexual and reproductive health assistance and outreach in the San Luis Valley.
  • San Luis Valley Housing Coalition (Alamosa, serving multiple counties): Funds will be used to help provide low- to moderate-income households with the support needed to find and maintain affordable housing in the Valley.
  • San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center (Alamosa, serving multiple counties): Funds will be used to help the center provide immigration legal assistance, advocacy and education to immigrants in the San Luis Valley and beyond.
  • Town of San Luis (San Luis, Costilla County): Funds will be used to help the town promote the public health, safety and welfare of the residents.

Since 2009, The Trust has provided $606,500 in grants to rural Colorado nonprofit organizations via Rural Philanthropy Days, and to CRC to support the statewide Rural Philanthropy Days program. For more information about Rural Philanthropy Days, visit the CRC website.
