Health Policy & Advocacy
2013 to 2017

An educational program of The Colorado Trust, the Health Equity Learning Series aims to increase knowledge and awareness of health equity through presentations from experts discussing factors that increase disparities and solutions that advance health equity. To expand the reach beyond those able to attend the events in-person, we have partnered with organizations across the state (see grantee list at right) to live-stream the events in their communities, followed by discussion and networking.

Register now to attend the Feb. 28, 2017 Health Equity Learning Series event featuring Lydia X. Z. Brown (they/them). They are co-president of TASH New England, chairperson of the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council, and a board member of the Autism Women’s Network. Their presentation will focus on inequities in health services for disabled people with an intersectional focus on race, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

The event will be held at the EXDO Event Center (please note new location), 1399 35th St., Denver CO 80205 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 28. Complimentary lunch will be served. Space is limited; click here to register to attend.

Save the date for the final event of the 2016-17 Health Equity Learning Series, on May 4, 2017 featuring Ian Haney López. The event time and location will be announced in the future. Sign up for our mailing list to be automatically notified when registration opens.

2016-17 Health Equity Learning Series events will not be live-streamed simultaneously online. Full event recordings will be posted to this page approximately two weeks after the live event. 2016-17 Health Equity Learning Series grantees will begin hosting local viewing parties and professionally facilitated discussions around the same time, with these events scheduled throughout the fall. Dates, times and locations of these viewing party events vary by grantee organization and are subject to change. Contact the grantee organization(s) directly for more information. If you’re unsure which grantee organization is closest to you, please contact us.

Evaluation
To better understand the impact of the Health Equity Learning Series on the participants and to glean lessons learned for future efforts, an evaluation is being conducted by Melanie Tran, from University of Colorado Denver. All participants at both in-person events and at viewing parties across the state are surveyed and asked to self-report their knowledge of the health equity topics before and after the speech. Willingness to take action and types of action are also assessed. Grantees hosting viewing parties provide qualitative data, both written and via in-depth interviews, to better understand what is needed to achieve health equity in Colorado. Evaluation contact: Nancy Baughman Csuti, DrPH, director of Research, Evaluation & Strategic Learning, The Colorado Trust, 303-837-1200.
