Health Disparities to Health Equity: Dr. Paula Braveman

On January 31, 2013, The Colorado Trust hosted a Learning Lunch featuring Paula Braveman, MD, a leading national expert on health equity, as she discussed barriers to achieving optimal health faced by racial and ethnic minorities, low-income and other disadvantaged populations. Dr. Braveman serves as director of the Center on Social Disparities in Health within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She is widely renowned for her efforts to help policy and health leaders better understand and address wide and persistent disparities in health and health care between social groups in the United States and worldwide.

T.R. Reid moderated a discussion with Dr. Braveman following her initial remarks. Reid is well known for his long-time reporting for the Washington Post and NPR commentaries, and author of such works as “The Healing of America: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper, and Fairer Health Care.”
