Helped members of Colorado’s south and southeastern communities to identify their health needs and advocate for improved access to health care, in partnership with CSU-Pueblo’s Hasan School of Business, Action 22 Foundation, the San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center and the Center for Immigrant and Community Integration, Catholic Charities Diocese of Pueblo.

Supported the dissemination of the results of the Colorado Futures Center‘s fiscal sustainability study to inform policy decisions related to access to health.

Educated the business community about health care issues and engaged business leaders in seeking solutions on how to expand and improve access to health.

Provided leadership development training for Coloradans to better enable them to advocate for an improved health care system and implement policies that expand access to health.

The department conducted the 2008 Colorado Statewide Household Survey to understand state-specific uninsurance and underinsurance rates, as well as factors that influence and are associated with these rates, to inform state policy decisions related to insurance and establish baseline data by which the state can monitor progress in expanding health coverage.

Partnered with the Colorado Health Foundation to support consulting services to the State of Colorado necessary to develop a strategic plan to improve state eligibility determination, verification and enrollment systems, as required under the Affordable Care Act.

Supported the Colorado Health Institute in building the statewide Health Professions Database to ensure that programs and policies are data-driven and can strategically address Colorado’s provider shortage.

Supported statewide efforts to address the problem of suicide by encouraging people at risk to receive care and improving the care that at-risk individuals receive. Learn more.

Conducted local outreach in support of the Frontline film Sick Around the World, which explores how other industrialized countries deliver health care and what the United States might learn from their experience. A follow-up film, Sick Around America, focuses on the 225 million Americans under 65 not covered by Medicaid or Medicare who seek access to health care via the private insurance market. Learn more.
