How Health Policy Advances Health Equity

On June 6, 2013, The Colorado Trust hosted a Learning Lunch featuring Brian Smedley, PhD, MA, a leading national expert on health equity, to share information about how states can address health equity through the Affordable Care Act, as well as other ways through which states and local communities can advance health equity. Dr. Smedley is Vice President and Director of the Health Policy Institute of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in Washington, DC. The Institute explores disparities in health and develops policy recommendations to advance health equity.

In order to keep the health equity discussion going, here is an article from the Health Policy Institute of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Place Matters: Ensuring Opportunities for Good Health for All, which provides information about the range of social, economic and environmental conditions that impact our health. Please read and share with others. Here are some discussion questions to use to engage others in a discussion around health equity.
