Upcoming Learning Lunch: "Women under the Influence"
On July 18, The Colorado Trust will host a Learning Lunch to promote awareness about substance abuse among women and girls. The event will feature Susan Foster, Vice President and Director of Policy Research and Analysis for the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), in a presentation about Women under the Influence. This 292-page book is the result of 10 years of exhaustive research funded by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation and published by The Johns Hopkins University Press.
"The research findings summarized in Women under the Influence illuminate the causes and effects of substance abuse among women - including racial and ethnic differences, and physician failures - as well as recommendations about how to best tackle this problem," said Ed Lucero, Senior Program Officer for The Colorado Trust. "We want to share this helpful information resource with local medical professionals, social workers, teachers, policymakers and others."
CASA is the only national organization that brings together all the professional disciplines needed to study and combat substance abuse as it affects society. Previously, The Trust supported CASASTART (Striving Together to Achieve Rewarding Tomorrows), a community-based, school-centered program to help keep high-risk youth free of drug and crime involvement.
