New President and CEO Announced
The move to Colorado signals a homecoming for Ibarra. She previously served in Colorado Governor Roy Romer’s cabinet (1987-1991) as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Social Services, and as Deputy Manager for the Denver Department of Social Services (1984-1987), as an appointee of Mayor Federico Pena. Beginning in 1994, Ibarra practiced corporate and business law at Hillis, Clark, Martin and Peterson in Seattle, Washington. She then returned to the health care and nonprofit arena, serving as CEO of the Alameda Alliance for Health, a nonprofit health plan that provides health care services for children and families in Alameda County, California through the Medi-Cal and Healthy Families Programs. Ibarra went on to serve as Director of LA Health Action, a California Endowment-sponsored effort to provide heath coverage for all children and youth in Los Angeles County. In 2003, Ibarra moved to the California Endowment, where she has served as Executive Vice President. “We are so pleased to announce Irene Ibarra as the new President and CEO of The Colorado Trust. Irene has devoted much of her career to developing solutions for complex health care problems. Her familiarity with health care issues and the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, as well as her understanding of and commitment to serve the increasingly diverse population of our state, all bode well for the continued strong leadership of The Trust,” said Reginald Washington, M.D., Trustee of The Colorado Trust’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Washington managed the national CEO search process on behalf of the Trust Board. Ibarra holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington. She also has a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Social Work in Community Services and Social Planning from the University of Denver. She completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government. Ibarra will assume the leadership position of The Colorado Trust on November 13, 2006. |
Irene Ibarra has been named the new President and CEO of The Colorado Trust. Ibarra formerly served as Executive Vice President of The California Endowment, a health care foundation serving the people of California, and the 12th largest foundation in the U.S.
