    More Low-income Coloradans Receiving Dental Work

    In the past year, more than 500 Fort Collins residents, all living near or below the poverty line, took advantage of a new program from Delta Dental offering two years of free dental insurance. Statewide, more than 6,000 people enrolled and Delta Dental paid more than $2 million in claims. But challenges remain. Those with dental insurance are twice as likely to regularly see a dentist, however, about 2.1 million Coloradans had no dental insurance in 2011, a 17 percent increase from three years ago, according to The Colorado Trust.

    State Dealing with Medicaid Dental Woes

    Colorado is one of only a few states that does not cover dental services for adults on Medicaid, except for emergency services. Forty percent of Coloradans, 2.1 million residents, lacked any dental insurance in 2011, according to a new study by The Colorado Trust. Those without dental insurance, the study found, were twice as likely to forgo needed dental care due to cost concerns than those with coverage.

    Colorado Trust Announces Just Under $1 million for Better Childhood Health Resources

    The Colorado Trust, an organization dedicated to helping people access healthcare by 2018, recently announced a grant for eight Colorado Early Childhood Councils totaling $983,639. With this grant, groups around the state will be better prepared to help children in their communities access healthcare services, including medical treatment and preventative oral care.
